Third in our brand spotlight series is Brush It On! Brush It On are an Australian social enterprise with a range of plastic-free and reusable home and personal care products. Bamboo toothbrushes had been a frequent request from Vessel customers, but as they are all made in China, it went against the locally-made ethos of the shop. When I found Brush It On, who give 100% of their profits to ocean, animal and forest conservation causes, I was sold!
The Brush It On team is Viviana Rames in Sydney and Alice Moir in Melbourne, and they started the business in January 2019. I asked Viv from Brush It On to tell us a little more about their business.
1. What inspired you to start your business? The idea came from a desire to protect this planet for future generations. I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter when I learnt there would be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050. I got very upset by that prospect; my daughter will be around my age then and I want her to be able to swim in clean oceans. I realised changing my own consumer behaviour isn’t enough and decided to take an active part in driving change and offering a piece of the solution to the problem.
2. What are the values you uphold in your business? Sustainable, Practical, Passionate.
3. What you love/find most challenging about running your business? Time! I have two little girls (2yo and 3mo) who keep me very busy. Other than that cash flow is always a challenge for a small business.
4. Your favourite product from your range and why? Compostable dental floss - it's cute, practical, and smells nice.
The Brush It On range includes dental floss, toothbrushes, charcoal tooth powder, bamboo combs, bamboo cotton buds, konjac sponges, supersoft facial brushes, silicone baking mats, reusable produce bags, bamboo soap racks, and you can find them all in store!
